New Xbox 360 Controller

So take a look at this. The new Xbox 360 controller that's already featured in box of a brand new Xbox 360 Slim. This new controller, being released November 9th with the new Play & Charge Kit, is expected to fix numerous issues that fellow Xbox 360 owners have complained about. One if it's new features is the "cool grey buttons" transforming D-pad that can go "from a plus to a disc with the twist of the wrist."

Major Nelson also shows these features in a video posted on Youtube below:

Doesn't look like too many people approve of this especially with comments like:

elmalhermano
The controller will only be available with the new Play & Charge Kit that will launch on November 9th for US $64.99
so instead of fixing the problem, they will capitalize on it, yep sure is microsoft here
Jar155
What's the point of the twist functionality? Like sometimes you want it to be a good d-pad and sometimes you want it to completely suck? Why would you ever choose to have it completely suck? Terrible idea.

SchnauzerVictim
WOW, not a bad idea with the d-pad, but way to fail with the colors. Almost every game that says "Press the 'A' Button to continue" (or something like that) shows a green A. Now some 5 year old is going to be like "WTF MATE, where is the green button?"

Blade and Soul Trailer

This game has been in development for quite some time and whenever it comes out it looks like may well be worth the wait. Powered by the Unreal Engine 3, this Korean fantasy martial arts MMORPG is being developed by NCSoft and team Bloodlust. This trailer introduces both the races and classes featured in the game. Only four of eight classes are shown. This MMO is expected to be released late 2011.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Launch Trailer

At first I was going to pass on this game with myself thinking Web of Shadows was as good as a Spidey game was going to get but this trailer convinced me I should at least try it. Shattered Dimensions releases next week September 7 on every console and handheld except the PSP. That's a good thing though PSP owners! You won't have nothing to distract you from playing Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep!

Future Rock Band

Freddie Wong, better known as freddiew on Youtube, does just what his Youtube profile says: "Just some cool dudes making sweet vids with rad FX!" And he's done it again with his new video titled "Future Rock Band." How much would this game cost if it was released? My guess is.....OVER 9000!!!! Over $500. Anyways, if you like Freddie Wong then subscribe to his channel, visit his site, Facebook him, or either follow him on Twitter.

New Malicious Trailer

Haven't heard of Malicious? As of now, it's going to be a Japanese PSN game. Hopefully it'll be released outside the country. I think it will. The game itself looks beautiful and the gameplay looks amazing. First announced in June, it's the protagonist's job to wipe out the "Malicious." Weapon of choice? A cape which is described as the "cloak of ash." It has the ability to take many forms such as a fist or fire long range attacks called "demon bullets." There's a boss at the end of each stage and once you defeat them, you absorb their power. (Yeah. Mega-Man) A price hasn't been set yet but the game is expected to be released this year. Screens below!!!

Epic Mickey is Epic

Especially with the announcement of a collector's edition. The bundle includes:

  • Special packaging
  • Disney Epic Mickey Game
  • Exclusive 5 inch Collectible Vinyl Epic Mickey Figure
  • Special Edition DVD with behind the scenes footage and additional marketing assets and videos
  • Epic Mickey Stylized Wii Remote Faceplate
  • 2 Epic Mickey Stylized Wii Console skins
Pretty good deal right? A released date hasn't been announced yet, but the title is expected to be released before the year ends.

Atlus No More

As reported earlier, which I didn't post, a representative from Index Holdings announced that Atlus will be dissolved. Atlus, already fully owned by the company, will merge with the mobile division of the company which is named "Index." The Atlus brand will exist on future games but Atlus will no longer be listed in the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Sad but at least we'll still have the Atlus logo on their releases. I personally believe decline in games come from lack of innovation or interest which could also be people unwilling to try to new things. But don't consider that the reason for this move though. Especially with games like Catherine and Persona 5 on the way. Also recently announced from Atlus is Persona 3 Social. It's a mobile game (hah) that's free, but players will have to pay for in-game items. Check out the screens below.

Rise Plastic Gundam! Rise!

10-Foot Gundam Made of Plastic Model Leftovers

I wish this much effort was put into Gundam games. Especially Gundam: Crossfire....

Don't remember?

What the hell Microsoft. Why raise prices in out so-called struggling economy? The Major justifies this by saying:

Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.

However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription.

Well said Major Nelson. I expect Microsoft to take care of us with this increase and offer gamers better if not more content. (I think we're covering their loses!) I take no sides in this "Console War" but this makes Sony's Playstation Plus service look like Christmas. At least you have a choice. Choice is good right?

Oh No!! No Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for the PSPgo

You saw this coming right? I definitely did! We all know that PSP modding or should I saw "custom firmware" is a thorn in Sony's ass. To try and combat this Sony released to PSPgo which still to this day no one has been able to hack. They also introduced digital downloads to support the handheld. I think the PSPgo was a a downright failure. It's like they made something that looked "cool" and then kicked it out the door. The PSPgo had the potential to be so much more but now we have the "community" making the older models of the PSP what they should've been. Fun. Not fun as in playing games illegally but fun as in the creative aspect (such as themes). I'll talk about that later in another post.

I think Square Enix's decision to release this title as UMD-only is letting you know that they have amazing fans out there. They know they've created an amazing product and they know that this game will sell well regardless of not being sold digitally. How many of you out there own a PSPgo anyway? Five, right? Thought so. I'm kidding. Arizona Daily Star's writer Phil Villarreal and IGN contacted Square Enix and they responded:

"Square Enix, Inc. currently has no plans to release Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep through the PlayStation Store."

This commercial right here would have you thinking it would be available for the Go. The deception!!! Hopefully it'll be released online after the game has it's run.

No "Go" for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep [because i told you so]

Another Century's Episode: R Trailer

I was looking at Japan's top 10 chart for last week and sitting in the number 1 spot was this PS3 game published by Namco Bandai. I'm a sucker for fast-paced mecha action. That trailer up top looks good at all but I had to see some gameplay. It features mecha from series such as Gundam, Macross, Code Geass, Super Robot, Full Metal Panic etc. Reminds me of one of my favorite (also underrated in IMO) games Gundam: Encounters in Space. I'll definitely let you know how this game is once I pick it up! If you can understand Japanese, here's the official site: http://www.ace-game.jp/

Bleach: Heat the Soul 7

Here's the trailer for Bleach: Heat the Soul 7. It's the 7th entry in the series developed by Eighting. The game offers up to 84 playable characters, multiplayer battles with up to 4 players, and lastly giant boss battles. Seems like this "giant boss battle" thing is becoming more and more popular. Anyways, you've probably expected this. This is 7th entry and 1-6 of this series has never seen a US release as popular as this anime is. The game will be released September 2nd in Japan.

I'll probably pick this title up but what bugs me the most about this series is the lack of difficulty. Hopefully Eighting has done something about it. That's my only gripe with this series. Other than that, the combat remains fun and the cel-shaded characters are always amazing.

PS3 Defeated?! Maybe Not.

I totally ignored this last week because I thought it was a joke. Apparently it's not a joke. Especially to Sony. This past week, videos went up online showing the world's first PS3 mod chip known as "PS Jailbreak."

Here's a list of specs:

PS Jailbreak is a USB plug and play solution that installs in seconds, keeping your valid warranty seal in tact.

Easy to use installer and GUI takes you step by step.
Compatible with all production models FAT and SLIM. Supports all regions: USA, JAP, PAL and KOREA
PS Jailbreak disables forced software updates and will never brick your console.
Supports all games (it does not allow backups of bluray movies , dvd movies , or past consoles games)
Backup games to your internal hard drive or external hard drive through USB, and boot directly off GUI. Eliminating the need for expensive blueray burners and costly blank media.
Play backups off your hard drives 2x as fast as off the blueray drive. This eliminates lags and glitches to provide you with smoother game play.
Open up your console to a new generation of homebrew applications. Load homebrew apps/games off any USB hard drive/flash drive.
Fully updatable with new features/updates by connecting PS Jailbreak to any computers USB port.
How does Sony respond? Well yesterday Sony decided to take legal action against the Australian developers and whoever has the balls (now) to sell the device. Sony Computer Entertainment Australia was granted a temporary injunction from now until August 31. During this period, the mod chip can't be sold to or imported by the public. Also the court is making the developers deliver all technical samples to Sony. After August 31, the mod chips could possible go back on sale depending on the court's decision. Most likely they'll rule in Sony's favor since they did with Nintendo and the R4. Or maybe not, because maybe the court is angry about cross-game chat. I'm kidding. But we'll see what happens when the 31st rolls around. Australian site, iTWire, contacted Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and received the one of the gaming industry's finest lines. "We don't comment on rumor and speculation."

I think it's time for new characters to be revealed!! C'mon Capcom! These gameplay videos of the same characters are getting stale.

Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch

I forgot all about this game. I just randomly stumbled across again and downloaded the demo which I didn't know was out. It is amazing! I'm not going to sit here and sing songs about it. Just download it and see for yourself! It's the demo from SGC (ScrewAttack's Gaming Convention). I can't wait for the final product!

Download it here! Also check out Cutstuff for more info!

Costume Quest

I've ignored this game now for about a week now because of a silly looking screenshot and now I've seen the actual trailer. My thoughts?....I WANT!!! From what I've seen, transforming into "warriors" such as a robot, knight, or unicorn looked pretty amazing. I just hope we can jump in this game (Brutal Legend...) Tim Schafer and Double Fine seem like they know what they're doing so I expect a solid title.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game News

Alot of people have been scrambling around trying to find codes for this game. The most recent discovery was that of the Boss Rush mode which we've seen in Game Trailers review. The code is right, right, O, R1, right, right, O, R1. If you know who discovered it let me know and I'll give cred. (Maybe even a points card for whichever console!). Also the 6th mysterious character that everyone thought was unlockable is DLC.....which is pretty neat! According to this picture from the dev's blog.

It's Knives Chau! (hopefully!) The developer also goes on to state:

"As far as I know, the sixth character will be a downloadable one and will only come out with the DVD release of the movie."

There's also the mention of extra game modes such as a Dodgeball and a Battle Royal. Maybe we'll find out more closer to the DVD release. Until then, read up on the dev's blog for more screens and random info on the game.

Live Action Metroid: Other M TV Spot

This is how you advertise a game. Live Action, CGI, and then flow straight into gameplay.

Gamescom: Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 Trailer

Here's a new trailer for the upcoming Dragon Ball title "blasting" it's way to shelves this Fall. Bojack, Zangya, and Hatchiyack (villain from OVA) make their debut and also there is a preview of the OVA that's included with the game. I can't say I'm too impressed with their new approach to the visuals. It looks bland and reminds me of the worst DBZ game I've ever played that everyone used to want so bad. *cough*Final Bout*cough* I'll be nice. How about Budokai 1 instead? Anyways, it's a only a trailer and I don't have the game yet so maybe my opinion will change once it's on my TV in HD. I'm still waiting on my sequel to Burst Limit, minus the Drama Pieces. How do you go from Budokai 3, to Infinite World, and then to total crap. :/ At least the game looked good.

Atlus Japan's First HD Game

I want to play this so bad. I'm drawn in by the madness. This game has everything you want right? Boobs, lambs wearing ties, sex, and an oddball of a character who goes by the name of Vincent. The trailer starts off with Vincent asking an unknown woman if she's heard the rumor that if you die in a dream, then you die in real life. She states that she hasn't but did have a dream where she killed someone. And then craziness ensues like Vincent running around in his boxers.

42 Characters Available in Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2

Thirty-nine (including selectable forms) characters have already been confirmed. We can only imagine who the last three are. I'm going with Tobi, Danzo, and Konohamaru.

42 Playable Characters in Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 [Saiyan Island]

One Piece: Gigant Battle Trailer

This game will probably never be released here in the states but if you're a fan of One Piece or played Jump Superstars or Jump Ultimate Stars before then this might be for you! It has similar gameplay to the Jump series. Why? Because those two titles and this one are developed by Ganbarion. When Jump Ultimate Stars was released, it made tremendous improvements over Superstars so this game should be just as good or better than Ultimate Stars (I hope!). Currently, this game is scheduled for release only in Japan. Here's the site below:

Castle Crashers Finally Coming to PSN

The PSN version is expected to have new features such as 4 player volleyball and Player Arena matches with the ability to choose teams. You can do 2v2, 1v1, or even 1v3. Free-for-all is there also. I'm pretty sure The Behemoth went out of their way to make this title worth the wait.

Gamescom: Mass Effect 2 Coming to PS3

What about the first Mass Effect? How is that going to be explained for newcomers? Will Sheppard have pre-deteremined decisions that he would've made in the first game? Hopefully and most likely Bioware will come up with something to address those issues.

Gamescom: Dragon Age 2 "Destiny" Trailer

Bioware knows how to get you hyped for a game. Epic indeed. Dragon Age 2 will be different from its predecessor. The main character, Hawke, will be an actual character with a set race and voice. I personally prefer it better that way instead of the "Guy A" being on the cover and then "Guy B" (myself) being in the game method. Makes me feel somewhat less than epic because I'm not "Guy A" in the trailers. For example, I really liked this trailer for Mass Effect 2. That "Sheppard" looked so badass while my Sheppard or rather "Guy B" was sitting next to me eating chips, drinking soda, and randomly checking his facebook page which only has one fan. Me.

Gamescom: Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 Trailer

Wow. I know the gameplay will remain mostly the same, but you can't deny one fact. This game looks amazing.

Halo: Reach - A Spartan Will Rise Trailer

When I first saw this game, I thought it was going to be another ODST. I haven't finished ODST because I became bored with it. I know I'll finish it before Reach comes out though. I played the beta for Reach and I was a little impressed with the class-based approach, but it wasn't enough to reel me in. I was about to ignore this game, but I couldn't fully do that until I "knew" what Reach was about. I read a couple stories and summaries online to see what Reach was really about and became really interested in the story. Not only will I definitely pick up the game, I think I'll read Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund as well.

Gamescom: Infamous 2 Trailer, New (Old) Cole

We have the old Cole back!!!! It's always good when the fans voices are heard. Here's a clearer picture of his face below.

Utada Goes on Hiatus

On August 9, Utada announced on her blog that she was going on a 2-5 year hiatus. Reasons for the hiatus included that fact that she's been singing since she was 15 and also that she wanted to rest, study and learn new things. Here's the translation of her blog:

I can't believe how quickly time goes - it's already been 12 years since my debut with "Automatic," which was called "that sensational video of dancing in a low ceiling room."(lol) I was 15 at that time.

Lately when I first meet someone they say, "Oh so you're still 27~! I thought you would be around 30, since I have this image that you have a very long career~. And you looked quite grown-up when you debuted."

27 years old, it's young in a sense . . . but not that young in another sense.

When I think back I find I've always worked on music ever since I was 15. Spent my life overprotected by people around, so that "Utada Hikaru" can stick to music. People say I have plenty of life experience for my age, but as a matter of fact what I've experienced is quite lopsided.

I have had chances to do something uncommon thanks to this job. I thank you all my fans, all my staff from the bottom of my heart.

That said, there is this part of me which has stunted since around 15, when I started living my life focused on artist activities. That is the part, important as a human being.

Over the past 12 years I've challenged various things as an artist, and I think I've grown up a bit through those experiences. And I need to grow up as a person, aside from music, to evolve further.

Based on those thoughts I have made a big decision!

I am going to stop flashy "artist activities" for a while and focus on "human activities, " starting from next year.

This is not a "retirement announcement"! Nor is this "rest" or "recreation."

This period is going to be the period form me to face the real me as a person, by studying something new eagerly and humbly, seeing and learning things in this while world I don't know yet. I think that's something that should be called "human activities," different from "artist activities."

And that should lead to my growth as an artist too, as a result.

Of course I may be making music or singing as I like, during that time.

When the time comes that I realize I have grown up a little as a person, and I feel the need to let you all hear my music, that is about time I should do so.

I didn't like it just to hide without showing up in front of my fans, and to jump into "human activities" with no regrets, I'm gonna go on full-throttle to do music activities till the end of this year!

First of all, I'm gonna release Single Collection vol 2 in upcoming autumn. I've made a lot of singles after the relase of vol 1.

This time I'll put some new songs in it!

Maybe 4 songs or so, 5 hopefully . . . ! I'm right in the middle of recording, trying to make them something that can tell you my recent feelings, change of my heart. Pleae wait for a while, I'll let you know as soon as the release date is fixed.

Other than that there are more things already fixed and I'll tell you about them soon! Like, a CM I appear in and such . . . expect a lot!

I thank all the staff of EMI being receptive to my offer to take off from artist activities from next year.

I've always made them nervous or worried, still they've always believed in me, supported me. Thank you very much.

I can focus on "human activities" with an easy mind thinking they will wait for my return, believing me.

I guess each one of you has a different impression on my decision, but please believe me and wait for my return. I have no idea how long it gonna be - 2 years or 5 years, but I shall return, more matured. Give me some time.

Well before that I'm gonna release new songs in autumn, then winter and there should be some opportunities to show you recent me, as well as interact each other. So that's all for today. (Also I'm thinking of starting twitter for a limited time! That way I can reply to you directly)

Last of all, thank you for reading this long message. I hope this can help to tell you my current feeling, as much as possible.

August 9th 2010

Utada Hikaru

at 8:00 PM

Yep. No Utada for awhile. Utada is well-known for contribution to videogames  such as "Simple and Clean" in Kingdom Hearts and "Passion" and "Sanctuary" in Kingdom Hearts II. Even though she's going on hiatus she does plan to release a second singles compilation album this coming fall. It will include 4 or 5 new tracks.
